Ambari Nutrition: Nana-Berry Protein Smoothie

I previously reviewed products by Ambari Nutrition. My favorite of the protein shakes/smoothies happened to be the Strawberry Blast.  I’ve created a drink using their smoothie protein mix to have a nice dessert drink with high protein! You have to love a great drink to enjoy that is crazy healthy!

I know I have been MIA for quite some time but life has happened. I am working on new content so please be patient with me. I wanted to definitely give you all an update into my weight loss and Weight Watchers update.  First, I did not go through with Weight Watchers past 1 month.  In that month’s time I did manage to  about 8 lbs. Review: Ambari Nutrition

Who doesn’t love great healthy snacks, meal replacement shakes and bars?! I know I do!

When you had bariatric surgery and/or starting a healthy lifestyle regimen, having great tasting protein products will play an important role in your regimen to ensure you will stick with it! I was contacted by Ambari Nutrition to review some of their products. I’ve never heard of this company before so I did some of my research and they are a small company out of Ohio and they sell bariatric  and weight loss products. I was sent an array of things and I think this is a company that I will definitely buy from in the near future!

First, let me start by saying I was very impressed with this company and the products that were sent to me. Let me tell you my pros and cons based on the products that I have tried and I will provide my overall experience and final recommendations.

I was sent the Variety Pack which included : Chocolate Almond Wafer, Chocolate Caramel Wafer, Cinnamon Crisp, Fudge Graham Crisp, Mint Cocoa, Peanut Crisp, and S’mores.  This variety pack has 7 bars that has 160 calories, 15g of protein and 5g of fiber. I loved the bars a lot in this pack. My favorites included the S’mores (which tastes like a S’mores PopTart), Mint Cocoa (definitely very similar to the Girl Scouts Thin Mints), Chocolate Caramel Wafer (has a Snickers flavor), and the Cinnamon Crisp.

I had a few of the protein shakes/smoothies/puddings.   I only had the strawberry/blast yogurt smoothie, Hazelnut Cocoa Protein Shake, and the Chocolate Brownie Protein Shake mix. I have a great recipe that is featured with the strawberry yogurt protein powder so stay tuned! However, I made the Chocolate Brownie into a pudding mixture to see how I would like it. Honestly, I was not a fan. I think if I used almond or soy milk, I would have had a better outcome. I mixed the powder with 4 ounces of water as stated on the package. It was not smooth and it had a bad aftertaste.  I  had the Hazelnut Cocoa mixture into a pudding and I loved it. It was smoother because I used a whisk,  and I used almond milk instead of water (big difference, but this did add calories). I cannot speak for the other mixtures because unfortunately, my lovely puppy bit through the packages so these were not able to be sampled. (BUMMER!)  I did like how you can either use their mixes to make a protein shake, smoothie, or pudding. This is nice to have a 15g protein, 100 calorie option  to make whatever your heart desires!

I was sent a sample of the vanilla cappuccino and I was excited about this because I’m not so much a coffee drinker.  However, hot chocolate  and cappuccino flavor drinks are pretty much up my alley.   I mixed it with hot water,  stirred it up, and it created a great froth on the top which I like!  I really liked the vanilla cappuccino. It had a nice vanilla flavoring, and it did not have a bad aftertaste despite it having 15g of protein. I would not have thought a hot drink would have 15g of protein with 90 calories. Now, I will say it was good, but I could tell that it was not truly a fattening cappuccino with loads of sugar, which I’d like better, but hey, we’re trying for healthier alternatives right?

The Sampler/Snack pack was the next box of meal replacements/snack protein bars sent to me. HOLY MOLY….These were my favorite of the two protein bar boxes.  This included: Frosted Marshmallow Brownie, Frosted Lemon Meringue, Frosted Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Pretzel, Peppermint Patty, Peanut Butter Patty, and Cinnamon Oatmeal Patty. I really loved every single one in this box and they had 10g of protein in each bar. My absolute favorite was the Frosted Lemon Meringue. I hate lemon flavored anything, but I was blown away with this flavor!

1. Taste. The taste is great to be a protein meal replacement bar. I am not a fan of the lovely cardboard taste and I honestly did not have this with either of their products.

2. Cost. The cost is affordable. The 2 protein meal replacements packs are right under $12, which to me is not expensive because the taste makes it totally worth it.

3. Satiety. All of their products left me to be full throughout the morning until lunch time with a small snack of fruit in between because I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.

4. Calorie vs Protein. The calories of the bars are low and the protein content is medium to high.

1. Availability. These protein products cannot be purchased in a store,  but I’m told they have fast shipping and they try to work on each order the same day its placed :-)

2. Product Packaging. The packaging of the boxes were great, but the names that were on the individual packages of the bars and shakes were not the same as the name on the side of the boxes,  making it hard to decide which matched up. I had to do some guessing with this.  This was not a huge issue, but it can cause confusion for some consumers.

Overall Opinion

I was very pleased with this company and their products. I really loved how their products had low calorie, high protein choices.  They have an array of shakes, bars, smoothies, puddings, cappuccino, hot chocolate, cereals, and soups.  I was provided all of the products, but I would definitely buy from this company many times over. Not all of the products were my favorite, but the taste was great enough for me to remember the company. You SHOULD all go and try out the Ambari Nutrition products.

Why I Chose Bariatric Surgery

Making the decision to have bariatric surgery is very difficult.

However, I decided to go on with it… and this is why.

Growing up I was always a thick child. I was never fat or considered overweight. When I got in middle and high school I started having issues with my menstrual cycle starting late and in my freshman year, I discovered I had PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).  There would be times where I would have 2 cycles a year and sometimes I would have a cycle that lasted 2-3 months. YIKES! This started my downward spiral of weight gain. In my early 20’s I had to have a D&C operation and was later told I was a pre-diabetic and was placed on metformin as a precaution.

I tried everything to lose weight (Weight Watchers, B12 shots, Atkins, South Beach, and other Dr supervised weight loss programs). They all worked but as soon as I either stopped or tried to take a short break for a vacation, I gained the weight back plus some. I worked out (sometimes even 5 days a week) and barely lost any weight. I was not able to do much of anything due to PCOS and my pre-diabetes status.  I heard about the lapband and looked into it and found reviews for my surgeon.  I decided to go to a seminar. Two weeks later, I was approved for surgery and the following week I was on the operating table.  I did not do this to lose weight faster….I did this to help me…as a tool to assist me in my weight loss journey. It has been a tough journey every since.  Regrets?! STAY TUNED!
